Abstract
The article deals with the problem of educational material selection to the content of elective courses manuals in foreign languages for a high (profi le) school, which are the components of philological profi le, extend and deepen its additional profi le-oriented information in comparison with operating textbooks for a profi le level. Special attention is paid to the text as a basic unit of profi ledoriented teaching foreign languages (to texts for intensive reading, reading for gist, scanning reading; to principles and criteria of texts selection for elective courses). A number of themes, forms and types of texts oriented on learning profile and future profession is increased in foreign languages elective courses compared with the content of basic subject. The ground for content selection of elective courses in foreign languages to high school students are competence, communicative, individual-oriented and cultural approaches.
