Abstract
The article is dedicated to the analysis of dimensions in primary school. It describes the steps of learning dimensions, the methodology of the formation of the notion of dimensions and the methodology of the formation of the measuring abilities in students of the first and second grades on the example of educational-methodological complexes in mathematics for the first cycle of the New Ukrainian School. This methodology includes the use of the systems of competence-oriented problems, which keeps the stages of works mentioned above, considers the possible results of the study as described in the primary school curriculum. The basis of the proposed methodology of studing dimensions is the practical activities of students, especially the ability to measure length, mass, volume, and time, to count money and to use a calendar. The study of each dimension is divided equally during the first and second years of education due to the necessity to take into consideration such an important conditions of study as duration and graduation. It is important to pay attention to the transfer of the experience of doing the activities from mathematics to other fields. And vice versa, primary school students should establish and keep the understanding of the relations between exiting objects, their actions, properties, quantities and dimensions. It is equally important to prepare a teacher for implementation of the competence-oriented approach to the teaching dimensions in primary school.
