Abstract

The article deals with the history and development strategy of school textbooks in the Republic of Moldova in the context of the formation of competencies. Ideas to enhance the implementation of the function of the formation of competence in modern school textbooks are proposed.
The main trends in the development of school textbooks in the Republic of Moldova:
• Strengthening the function of textbooks in the context of developing students' competence by strengthening the applied orientation of the theoretical and practical material proposed by the textbook;
• Use the experience of other countries in the context of the compilation and publication of school textbooks;
• Improving the quality of materials used for the publication of textbooks;
• Improving the aesthetic aspect of published textbooks;
• Increasing student interest and motivation through school textbooks;
• Creation and implementation of e-school textbooks.
• Development of educational and didactic complexes for each school discipline, including:
− curriculum of school discipline;
− guide to the implementation of the school curriculum;
− text tutorial;
− electronic textbook;
− software for students;
− software for the teacher.
• Development and implementation of alternative school textbooks.
It is important, based on the paradigm of competence formation, that school textbooks contain a sufficient number of tasks for:
− intradisciplinary communication;
− interdisciplinary communication;
− connection with life.
The textbook is one of the main tools in the formation of students’ competence. Therefore, each educational system should pay special attention to the development and implementation of new generations of textbooks. The experience gained in compiling and implementing school textbooks will contribute to improving the quality of subsequent generations of school textbooks in the Republic of Moldova. The ongoing curriculum reform, in the context of developing competence, and the implementation of the above trends will make the Moldovan school more student-friendly. We hope that in the future students will be happy to learn from textbooks published in the Republic of Moldova.
