The role of school textbook as an important means of learning and a source of knowledge on the subject define the importance of this research (based on the model of Austria). The author emphasizes the importance of creating high-quality school textbooks as a common problem of any nation to be solved. Recent researches of Ukrainian and foreign scientists on textbook contents, structure, both methodological and technological provision as well as on the place and the role of school textbooks in educational process and some other specific features prove the relevance of this problem. The aim of the article is to reveal some ways to solve problems of creating school textbooks and providing pupils with modern educational tools (various kinds of printed and electronic, interactive textbooks and manuals) to organize the most effective educational process in school education taking into consideration the economic effectiveness. The author informs that the Ministry of Education, Science and Researches of Austria is responsible for giving instructions, recommendations and guidelines on printed and electronic school textbooks and manuals. The latter are regarded as means used to support the tasks of the lesson and provide learning outcomes. Reading is viewed as a necessary competence for comprehension as well as a vital tool for reaching individual goals, skills development, selfeducation and a precondition for pupils' active participation in the societal life. Requirements to school textbooks and manuals as educational materials are defined by the Law on School Education. The author of the article highlights educational standards revision on permanent basis to provide and ensure lessons quality. Textbooks are selected during specialized school textbooks conferences held annually where the opinion of parents’ and pupils’ representatives is taken into consideration. Frequency of school textbooks practical usage during pupils’ work in the class and homework is one of the criteria for selection. There is a possibility to get both printed and e-textbooks using SBA-Online program. Interactive digital textbook offers additional interactive content. Internet Apps SbX, SbX Solo and SbX Combo give teachers and pupils access to interactive educational materials.
