Abstract
The article analyzes the principles of constructing the content of learning physics at gymnasium, its tasks and priority goals. The peculiarities of the basic course of physics as logically complete concentrator, which ensures further successful mastering of physics in the profile lyceum, are substantiated. It is stressed that the methodological basis for the formation of the modern content of teaching physics in grades 7–9 is to strengthen its target and competence orientation, to specify the educational results, which should be achieved by the applicants of general education in the process of mastering the physical component of the educational branch «Natural Science». The approaches to realization of the cross-cutting content lines in the basic course of physics are highlighted, which are projected onto the key competencies of students as a priority result of the educational process in the institutions of general secondary education. It is emphasized that the important condition for realization of the potential of teaching physics at gymnasium is the creation and implementation of a methodological system of competence-oriented learning that should ensure the formation of the appropriate components of the key competences by means of the gymnasium course of physics. Its main components and interrelationships between them are grounded. The emphasis is on the trends of the development of physics teaching and methods of its realization at gymnasium.
