Abstract
The article substantiates the expediency of introduction of propaedeutic course “Literary Reading” in the 5th grade of institutions of general secondary education with national minorities’ languages of teaching. The need of the implementation of this course is due to the social demand, lack of the formation of reading skills and limited volume of vocabulary of primary school graduates. Taking into account the needs and opportunities of pupils of general secondary education institutions with national minorities’ languages of teaching led to rethinking of the content of teaching Ukrainian literature in the 5th grade. The authors of the article recommend to determine the 5th grade as propaedeutic in the educational institutions of the type mentioned, to adapt the subject to the possibilities of children and to name it “Literary Reading”. This will ensure continuity with the primary school, as well as preparation of the child as a reader that is able to complete mastering of the content of the subject “Ukrainian Literature” at school. The main purpose of the course “Literary Reading” in the 5th grade is the development of readership competence, which is formed in the lessons of native and foreign literature; educating a creative reader with independent critical thinking and aesthetic tastes; improvement and development of the skills of reading in Ukrainian language; formation of literary and cultural competencies; formation of the humanistic worldview, general culture of personality. In the process of creating the course, the authors have taken into account: the level of proficiency in Ukrainian language and the vocabulary of pupils; lack of the formation of the skills of reading in Ukrainian language; psychological and pedagogical peculiarities of pupils' perception of texts in foreign language; relationships within the system of literary concepts, which are studied at the lessons of native, foreign and Ukrainian literatures; the unity of the analysis of a fiction text, its linguistic and literary components; the focus on the formation of pupil as both a reader and an active linguistic person with good communicative capabilities. The article covers the goals of the course, its structure and the actual content of learning; the expected results of educational and cognitive activity of pupils are outlined. The aim of the publication is to promote the discussion of the content of the course “Literary Reading” by scholars, methodologists and teachers of Ukrainian literature of institutions of general secondary education with national minorities’ languages of teaching.
