Abstract
The author actualizes the problem of modernization and enrichment of the content of the paper textbooks, according to which the modern digital generation acquires «yesterday’s» (not yet updated) knowledge, which limits the cognitive, creative and media capabilities of a person mastering the latest technologies. The urgency of the problem is growing in view of the COVID‑19 pandemic when general secondary education institutions are moving to blended and distance learning. The solution to the problem is seen in the enrichment and updating of the content of the traditional textbook due to the latest information contained in the media texts, and purposeful work with textbooks in lessons in all subjects and the Ukrainian language in particular. This will expand the scope of the traditional closed textbook, as well as enrich, update and modernize the cognitive map of the subject content of the Ukrainian language, speech and thinking activities of students through the latest interesting and useful information from all fields of knowledge. The latest scientific discoveries and facts stimulate discussion, provide dialogue, help to implement interdisciplinary and competency-based approaches to the organization of the educational process. Existing or implicitly present in media texts open-ended situations will allow to effectively integrate the acquired knowledge into the daily life of students and their environment. The author describes the different approaches to the definition of media text, clarifies the differences between these approaches and the texts of traditional textbooks. The article reveals the specifics of media text as a product of communication, which is mediated by a computer. Functions, features, types of media text are considered from the standpoint of interdisciplinary phenomenon. The article reveals the possibilities of media texts and features of working with them to enrich and modernize the content of school Ukrainian language textbooks, to increase the efficiency of learning the subject, to form key competencies and top‑5 skills in 2025. The author offers a method of working with media texts given their specifics. The publication provides example topics of tasks and relevant samples.
