Abstract

The article covers modern approaches to the definition of the concept of «financial literacy» in the scientific literature; the urgency of the problem of formation of financial literacy of the population of Ukraine, in particular children of school age, is disclosed; reviewed the updated program for basic general secondary education in the context of the phased formation of pupils‘ financial literacy in the process of teaching mathematics through integrating the cross-cutting line «Entreprise and financial literacy» into the school math course; outlined the division of tasks of financial content for content lines, and also analyzed Algebra textbooks for 8-9 forms for the presence of tasks forming the financial literacy of the younger generation. Thus, based on the various directions of coverage of the concept of «financial literacy» in the treatises of well-known scholars, the author attempts to interpret it as a complex of personal entity based on profound financial knowledge and skills of pupils, their knowledge of monetary relations, effective ability of competentive usage their finances and financial services. The existing Algebra textbooks of a number of Ukrainian scholars for the pupils of 8-9 forms which are recommended by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, for their availability of financial maintenance tasks, have been analyzed. According to the results of the analysis, it has been established that 8 form textbooks contain insufficient amount of financial-oriented tasks and materials of financial content, which makes it impossible for the pupils to form financial literacy, and in the 9th form books the quantitative indicators of the financial-oriented tasks are higher. It is established that in the modern Algebra textbooks it is necessary to form a new model of educational process, which would facilitate implementation of the solution of the problem of financial literacy formation.
