Abstract

The article proves the necessity of using interdisciplinary tasks for forming the ability of primary pupils to work with a textbook. This complex skill is the most important component of the integrated learning ability, which belongs to the key competencies, its structure is identified to have motivational, value and activity components. The interdisciplinary tasks within activity approach are substantiated: the study of the external structure of the textbook as a school book; the ability to use additional texts and outside text symbols, signs; mastering the methods of working with text. Different ways of managing the readers' activity of pupils are described in terms of functions and content: algorithms, memos, instructions, schemes. The role of the illustrative material in the textbook as an additional and independent source of information is disclosed; the ways of using illustrations in connection with the text are given. In the context of the ideas of the New Ukrainian School, it is recommended to rethink and expand the functions of textbooks on the basis of nature aligned and competency-based approaches; the importance of tasks on goal-setting, predicting, critical thinking is stressed.
