Abstract
During the period of independence, in the process of creating textbooks for reading (since 2001, literary reading) there is a continuous change, which was determined by the adoption of the new laws and regulations, the necessity to upgrade the requirements, methodology and school practice. Correspondingly, in the process of creating reading textbooks, four stages were found out: the first stage (1990–1996) was characterized by upgrading the existing textbooks and curriculum; appearance of the authorial programs and textbooks, anthologies; at the second stage (1997–2001), due to the adoption of the first State standard of the comprehensive secondary education (1997) and the Law “On Comprehensive Secondary Education” (1999), “The concept of the general secondary education” (12-year-old school) in 2001, for 4 years of primary schooling, new programs and textbooks in reading (two options) were provided. The third stage (2001–2010) is characterized by an intense provision of the scientific support in teaching reading; the introduction of new programs, textbooks and manuals on the subject. The fourth stage (2011–2015) is featured by the development of the theory of the textbook in Ukrainian pedagogical science. In 2014, Ukraine held the first open competition of textbooks for the 4th grade, submitted 17 manuscripts of literary reading; in spite of the different estimates of experts, all of them have been recommended for the use in school. The article represents the didactic and methodological guidelines for conducting an analysis on textbook manuscripts in literary reading.
