Abstract
Competence training paradigm that dominates in the modern foreign language school education necessitates the organization of educational process of a foreign language in conjunction with the culture of its speakers. In practice, it successfully presented through educational technology “dialogue of cultures”, which is broadly consistent with the basics of European standards of language education. This technology, in our opinion, can find its adequate reflection in the specially designed content of elective course in English “Welcome to Ukraine” for high school students, particularly in effectively modeled, competence and activity-aimed set of exercises and tasks. The article describes the basic principles of the competence-active approach to foreign language education in high school, as methods for its effective implementation in the elective course content “Welcome to Ukraine”. The author analyzes and describes the complexes of communicative exercises and tasks, as means of the elective course content mastering; their main functions are determined.
