Abstract
This article analyzes the collection of educational materials for Western European schoolchildren multilingual competence forming. The author draws the reader’s attention to the differences in the approaches to the use of textbooks in Western European and the Ukrainian school and indicates the basic principles of modern educational materials on language teaching as well as components of modern collection of educational materials. The results of the study of European experts in the European market of textbooks for multilingual education are offered. According to researchers, the number of commercially published training materials for multilingual education, which are particularly multilingual virtual complexes, is limited, and the problem of creating multilingual manuals and textbooks requires further research. There are largely bilingual printed manuals with audio-lingual support, without the specifics of application in the educational process. These textbooks are aimed at formation students’ functional literacy: the most attention is paid to reading. Attention is paid to revealing the essence of the concept of “literacy” in the current conditions, and the features for mastering basic language training in the context of multi-ethnic school are outlined. Due to the changes of language and ethnic composition of students in the classroom the approach to learning the basic language of school system has undergone essential transformations, which was reflected in the textbooks. With the introduction of communicative approach the process of language learning became more oriented to the use of languages. In the context of multilingual education the concept of learning basic language of schooling has received a new value relating to the use of language as a medium of teaching and learning. To support the students for whom the language of instruction is not native, textbooks contain information characteristic of teaching the language of schooling as a second language. Author determined the features of Learning Methodical Complexes for teaching English as a means of global communication. The main features include: 1) cultural universality; 2) ideological neutrality of the content; 3) gender, racial and social equality; 4) promotion of human values; 5) educational texts contain examples of information about socially successful people and so on. Such complexes often act as a source of ideas for creating learning materials in other languages.
