Abstract
The article analyzes text matters of current coursebooks and methodological manuals of Ukrainian (native) language for the 5th and 6th grades as a means of forming and control of students’ reading skills. In this work it is denoted some types of texts that allow students to read in silence and understand the information that had been put into them, and also practice all gained knowledge while reading. Thus, there are separated some task instructions, rules and exercises that by means of feeding the information are continuous (verbal) and non-continuous (containing tables, charts, algorithms). Some examples of these text matters are given here. Some reading skills that can be formed in students based on mentioned text matters of coursebooks and methodological manuals are determined. Gauges are analyzed here i.e materials for control of reading skills fi tted into current coursebooks and manuals. It is specifi ed what kinds of reading skills they are directed to check. It is concluded the reasonability of using mentioned gauges.
