Abstract
In this article, we consider a textbook as a complex structure element, essence of the «information» term, as a human-received data, which give an imagination about one or another side of the material world and about the processes, which arise in it; and can be used by a human with the purpose of enhancement of one’s activities and improvement of one’s knowledge; competency in the information area as a sophisticated individual and psychological composition, human skill to orient in the stream of different message’s, ability to work with different data sources, to fi nd and improve useful information, to classify it, to apply critically, to be able to effectively solve a problem after analysis. We prove, that consideration of information function of a textbook through the prism of competency in the information area causes complement and addition to interpretation of this term.
