Abstract
The article analyzes the didactic functions of a modern foreign textbook in the context of ensuring the training of gymnasium students for passing of the State final examination in the form of external independent evaluation. On the example of the textbooks on nature and social science subjects for graduation grade of the basic education level we may highlight the features of the methodological apparatus, the system of exercises and tasks for control and self-control, aimed at forming of the methods of educational and cognitive activity, that characterize the external independent evaluation procedures. The emphasis is placed on the possibilities of the textbooks as the means of forming and identifying the subject and the key competencies. It is determined that they contain a significant number of problematic and creative tasks, research and design works. The number of the tests is insignificant. At the same time, the closed type tasks (with the choice of one or several correct answers from the proposed variants) are dominating. It was found out that the important condition of students` training for their effective passing of the State final examination in the form of the external independent evaluation is using the electronic educational resources along with the textbooks that provide an opportunity to improve the ability to work with test tasks of different types. It is concluded that one of the tendencies of modern textbook creation in close foreign countries, in particular, in the context of forming skills to work with the tasks of the external independent evaluation, is the creation of the educational and methodological kits, the basis of which will be an educational book.
