The most important approaches to the organization of education and upbringing of children with visual impairments are the consideration of differences in educational opportunities and the needs of blind and visually impaired people, providing them with corrective-pedagogical assistance, creating a barrier-free positive emotiogenic environment, and forming optimistic relationships between students. When teaching children with visual impairments, ophthalmic-ergonomic requirements are relevant and specific. These requirements establish the dimensions of premises, doorways, stairways and passageways, furniture placement, lighting, color solutions of interiors, the mode of work and rest, the use of special educational and methodical complexes. The article presents the results of the study of the educational environment, taking into account the ophthalmic and hygienic requirements for the organization of the educational process for children with visual impairment. Features of creation of textbooks for visually impaired and blind pupils, features of their use in educational process are reflected.
