Abstract

The article actualizes the problem of modernization of the content of school literary education and preparation of innovative educational support for the literature course for grades 5–6 in the context of the ideas of the New Ukrainian School and in accordance with the new State Standard of Basic Secondary Education. A new model curriculum on Ukrainian literature and an integrated literature course (Ukrainian and foreign literature) for the adaptation cycle of study are presented, in particular, the purpose of studying literature in grades 5–6 is actualized. The focus is on the didactic functions of school textbooks.
Emphasis is placed on the priority of the self-educational function and its essence in the realities of modern school literary education is revealed. A model of new textbooks of Ukrainian literature and an integrated literature course (Ukrainian and foreign literature) for 5th grade, prepared at the Institute of Pedagogy of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine in accordance with current model curricula, is presented. The concept of literature textbooks is presented, which is based on the ideas of personality-­oriented and competency-­based approaches, reader-­centric and text-centric principles for school study of works of fiction. The structure and content of the rubrics of the textbooks of Ukrainian literature and the integrated literature course of (Ukrainian and foreign literature) for the 5th grade are presented, the approbation of which takes place in the pilot general secondary schools of the New Ukrainian School.
The innovative potential of new textbooks for the 5th grade on the effective organization of independent reading activities of young adolescents is revealed. The content of the textbooks “Your reading guide”, “You already know”, “You already know how”, “Think”, “Literary Clubs Club”, “In the circle of arts”, “Summarize”, “Reading leisure” for productive content is covered in detail. The implementation of the self-educational function is approved. Samples of organization of independent reading activity of students during the elaboration of educational material of literature textbooks are offered for acquaintance.
