Abstract
The article is devoted to the actual problem of Ukrainian language teaching on the basis of modern approaches: competent, personality-oriented and activity oriented; the article highlights advisability of realization of these approaches during studying of the complex sentences syntax. The role of the textbook as an important tool, which reflects the new paradigm of education and the logic of novel type of study, is emphasized. The article presents textbook ―Ukrainian language‖ for 9th grade, which was written by N. B. Golub and A. V. Yarmoluk. This textbook offers a model for studying of complex sentences syntax based on the integration of competency, personality-oriented and activity approaches. The article describes features of the content and structure of innovative textbook, such as, presence of motivational part at the beginning of each section; formulation of questions and tasks for determination of educational purposes by pupils of 9th grade; planning of their own educational activity, and reflection; clear allocation of key concepts; the delineation of theoretical material for obligatory study and additional information; motivated use of symbols, applications and dictionaries. The system of exercises and tasks, which was developed taking into account functionally-communicative and text-centric approaches, is proposed. The functions of the text concerning the development of competent linguistic personality are defined. The criteria for choosing textbooks for complex exercises, based on texts of socio-cultural themes, are highlighted. The examples of the system of exercises and tasks for complex sentence syntax, aimed at formation of syntactic competence in the pupils of 9th grade, are presented.
