Abstract
The article substantiates the current requirements for the content of a textbook of world history in the context of the formation of general cultural competence of the pupils of the seventh grade, defines the concept of "cultural component of the content of the world history textbook", describes its teaching and methodological aspects. The author highlights the important role of studying the monuments of Middle Ages culture in the formation of the general cultural competence of seventh graders, which in its turn promotes pupils' acquisition of historical knowledge and the formation of appropriate competencies. The objective complexity of the medieval era proper, its multifaceted culture, in particular, requires new approaches to the study of this period.
