Abstract
The article is devoted to the problem of defi ning the essence of the concept «electronic learner’s dictionary». The study was conducted in the context of the conceptual ideas of learner’s lexicography and computer lexicography. The functions of the learner’s dictionaries are described; methodological requirements for them are generalized. The different approaches to the understanding of the essence of electronic dictionaries and their classifi cation are given. Much attention is paid to the comparative analysis of the structural features of printed and electronic dictionaries, examination of the potential of the latter. The article elaborated the concept of «e-learning dictionary», which is interpreted by the author as an electronic reference book of the ordered list of linguistic units (words, phrases, sentences, terms), meant for teaching specific aspects of language or type of speech activity and focused on the specifi c level of the linguistic competence.
