Abstract

The authors of this article describe the main scientifi c approaches to the creation of textbooks for school and the research requirements defi ned by the Ukrainian scientists in the fi eld of the assessment of the quality of school textbooks and study the European criteria for the textbooks’ quality evaluation. A process of creating the new Ukrainian textbooks is complicated enough and full of contradictions. It is connected to the economic, the social and the political problems of our country, but we also need to improve the scientifi c approaches to the creation of modern Ukrainian textbooks and to determine the unified system of requirements and the criteria for quality evaluation. The authors also explore the European experience of evaluation of the textbooks quality on the example of criteria of the BESA (the international competition of the Best European Schoolbook Award). The authors point out that the European criteria could help to defi ne the priorities in the teaching-learning process and could be adopted and implemented in the Ukrainian practice of creating a new generation of textbooks.
