Abstract

The article deals with the problem of a modern chemistry textbook that has functionally to ensure all components of chemistry studying at the both levels: standard and academic, as at the specialized level of chemistry studying at the secondary school. The problem of a modern textbook defi nes a new paradigm of education in which the student is recognized as a major fi gure of the educational process, and the main task is the formation of a competitive personality, capable of selflearning, self-improvement, creative thinking, and to the successful fulfi llment throughout the life. The peculiarity of the secondary education is in the introduction of competence-based approach in the learning process, one of the characteristics of which is the formation of the learning skills, acquiring knowledge independently, working with manuals, textbooks, electronic media resourses, the Internet and
more. Textbooks are still remain as a key source of information among the educational process, the problem of modern textbooks, is its accordance to the requirements of secondary education and training programs, its role in the effectiveness of teaching and the quality of education remains relevant. The article deals with the textbooks of modern generation and the analysis of the systems scientists’ research.
The main part of the article describes the basic functions of a modern textbook in education of the secondary school:
Update curriculum.
The introduction of competence-based approach in the educational system.
Providing practical component of chemistry studying.
The introduction of a computer-oriented and ICT training.
Innovative and advanced technology.
Supporting the capable children.
Provide remote and specialized education.
Preparation for external assessment.
Organization of inclusive education.
A wide range of functional modern textbook provides its improvement and diversifi cation to meet the challenges of personality and competence-oriented, innovative modern education in Ukraine.
