Abstract

The textbook is a key component of the educational process despite the fact that modern education heavily relies on the wealth of information provided from varioussources and means. One of the consequences is a pressing need for the ongoingupgrade of factual material in textbooks as well as methodological complicity of the selection, structuring and presentation of information in textbooks.  In the context of new paradigm of education, which focuses on building knowledge and more importantly training new skills and competences of studentsthe nature and purpose of textbooks changes immensely. It becomes not only a source of information but also a guidebook for independent learning and practicing. It also offers various types of activities: reading text, analyzing illustrative materials, working with documents and experimenting with real life situations. The employment of the diverse set of educational methodologies and instruments in the context of modern education enables achieving the core goals and objective.
