Abstract
The topicality of junior schoolchildren’ independent work on a text based on the principles of the competence-based approach is substantiated in the article. The essence of the pupils’ independent work is considered; its types and forms, which are the most expedient for the implementation in the primary school academic process in the area of working on a text, are distinguished. The State Standard of the Comprehensive Primary Education and the «Literary Reading» curriculum are analysed with a purpose of the selection of the tasks for the independent work on a text by pupils of the 3rd form. The main branches of the independent work on a text by the 3rd form pupils are identifi ed; the relevant tasks for manuals of the optional course are selected and organized. In particular, there is a few number of tasks on the development of the reading technology: the tasks on the recognition of the words, the sentences, the indentions, the texts, editing, the construction of words, sentences, texts; the fulfi lment of the tasks on the semantic and the structural analysis of the composition, the development of the pupils’ creative activity on the basis of reading etc.
