Abstract

The article considers the tasks, functions and structure of a modern textbook on the law fundamentals for the secondary school students. The conceptual (methodological, educational, methodical) bases of the textbook are defined. The conceptual approaches to the design of a competence oriented textbook as the main means of teaching the main issues of jurisprudence for students are underscored. Due to the peculiarities of school law, a textbook on the fundamentals of law is the main means of teaching students. The modern textbook should focus on the practical significance of the acquired knowledge and the efficiency of educational outcomes. The competence oriented textbook on Fundamentals of Law should ensure that students acquire the necessary and sufficient amount of legal knowledge, the formation of skills for their application in practical tasks and problem solving, and act on the basis of value orientations developed in the course of law studies. The main (textual, non-textual) content components of the textbook on Fundamentals of Law are described. The modern requirements for the structure and presentation of the text in the textbook on Fundamentals of Law as well as the opportunities that are provided by a textbook for the organization of students‘ training in law fundamentals by a teacher are defined. It was indicated that the content of the textbook should be based on the content of legal science, display its latest achievements, controversial issues, including the assessment of social role and purpose of law. The features of the textbook, its structure, the system of cognitive tasks that ensure the formation of the key and legal core competences of the 9th form students are described in detail. The thesis of the article are illustrated by examples.
