Abstract
The article deals with the use of a textbook as an effective means of the formation of the communicative competence of the primary school children in the process of learning Ukrainian anguage as a state one. The concept of new Ukrainian language textbooks for the primary school with minority languages as teaching ones was prompted by the new goals and approaches to linguistic education. Textbooks must meet the time requirements, promote students’ mental development, their practical use of acquired knowledge, formation of the core and subject competencies. New Ukrainian language textbooks for the primary schools with minority languages as teaching ones are created on the basis of competence and communication approaches that are declared as priority ones in linguistic education. The article analyzes the materials of the Ukrainian language textbook for the 3rd – 4th grades in terms of their focus on speech development, formation of the communicative competence of students in schools with national minorities’ languages as teaching ones.
