Abstract

The article outlines and justifies psychological and pedagogical approaches to producing a textbook for secondary and high school as a means of personality development of teenage students. Thus, the article determines main age and psychological characteristics of students, emphasizes the necessity of taking the latter into account when structuring textbook content and clarifies importance of psycho emotional and volitional spheres in the learning process. The issue of formation of textbooks content is getting more and more actual due to increasingly bigger demands placed on a modern textbook. The need for changes has been caused by the information flows growth in the modern world that must be reflected in textbooks. Therefore, we are facing a problem of present textbooks information to be changed both qualitatively and quantitatively in new textbooks. Personality development contributes to formation of student‘s realistic self – concept, copy resources, internal locus of control, formation of psycho emotional and volitional spheres, critical thinking, development of emotional intellect, civic stand. What makes these processes effective is modernized textbooks produced taking into account both current global processes in the world, in the country and specifics of students‘ psychological, intellectual development in the secondary and high school, dynamics of personality formation in the young and older teenage age. New textbooks must not only contribute to the formation of holistic picture of the world based on the systematic integrative knowledge, but also to adaption of student's personality in the modern global informational and geopolitical space. The challenge of improving textbooks needs further studying.
